Posting Photos on Instagram

Updated: Aug 21, 2019

We will get into the nitty gritty of how to gather content later, for now, let’s start with the very basic step of posting a photo on Instagram.

You need to have a photo you want to post on your Instagram account accessible on the camera app of your phone. (You also need the Instagram app on your phone, sorry- that’s how these things work.)

Next, you will select the option that looks like a “+” in the middle of a box in the center of the bottom menu on your Instagram account- that’s to add a photo.

You will then select the photo you want to add. Keep in mind Instagram likes photos that are between 320 x 320 px to 1080 x 1080 px (for resolution sake, keep it within these dimensions), and the desktop version of instagram shows images that are up to 640 px.

You will then select the “Next” option in the top right corner.

This will take you to the editing option- we will get to aesthetic later on, for now just know that you should remain consistent with your editing + filtering.

Once you have applied a filter or chosen to leave the photo unedited- some things are better with #nofilter, hit the “Next” button in the top right corner.

This brings us to the caption page. Here you can add a caption, hashtags, tag people or other accounts, and add a location. All these things add value to your photo, your account, and your overall strategy; for now, just get comfortable with posting photos and exploring the different tools for exploration Instagram has.
